I am most afraid of losing my memories because what can you do when you’ve forgotten? I had almost lost one such memory until it came swooping right in— where had the vultures I had last seen as a child of 6 gone?

The Wonder Bone nests a collection of poems that emerged from discussions had with vulture conservationists, veterinarians, Zoroastrians, teachers, students, artists and nature writers to better understand what caused their rapid decline. What is as much about the vulture itself, is also about our own beliefs and perceptions. These poems are deep-seated in the grief that filled me up, when I realized what their population loss means for us, paired with my forgetting about them. To deal with this loss, the poems are nestled in the journey of remembering and forgetting and all the wonder and imagination that’s filled in between.
The illustrations were drawn with graphite and colour pencils. There are illustrations with gateway sheets to explore the theme of memory, remembering and forgetting. The poems play with form and offer questions for the reader to reflect on.
